Abstract

Georgia, with its rich history and diverse nature, has always been a subject of special interest to people visiting us from around the world. This explains the fact that most of the travelers who came here actively tried to see the sights of certain parts of Georgia.

One such person was the German naturalist and traveler Johann Friedrich Parrott, who twice, in 1811 and 1829, visited our country, including Kutaisi, as a member of a scientific expedition to the Caucasus. Johann Friedrich Parrott was the first scientist to carry out a successful expedition to Mount Ararat in 1829 and to record the results of that expedition in his writings.

In particular, the impressions of the scientific expedition and stay in Georgia organized by J. F. Parrott on Mount Ararat are narrated in his book "Journey to Ararat". The book was firstly published after the author's death in 1845 in London. It is interesting to hear the impressions of a German naturalist about his travels in many cities and regions of our country. This paper analyzes the part of the book that talks about the German colonies in Georgia. Unfortunately, the mentioned book has not been the subject of special attention of researchers until today. It should be said without exaggeration that the above-mentioned work of Johann Friedrich Parrot is inevitably an important foreign source for scholars interested in the relevant period of Georgian history
