Abstract

this article explores the role of heritage and heritage sites as elements of the historical environment, distinguishing between two approaches to working with heritage: emotional engagement and everyday practices. It begins by emphasizing the importance of heritage in shaping cultural identity and strengthening social bonds, not only preserving memories of significant events, personalities and cultural achievements, but also influencing community identity and daily life. The goal of cultural tourism is to make historical heritage accessible and visible to a diverse audience, turning heritage into a dynamic and living aspect of public life, which is especially important in the context of rapid globalization and urbanization. This is based on Rietveld's concept of affordances, which views heritage objects as opportunities for interaction that can be perceived and used differently depending on the context and people's experiences. The methodology involves selecting two historically significant cities from different continents (Europe and Asia) and analyzing their approaches to heritage through the prism of texts, focusing on different methods of programming their perception. In the case of Rome, the analysis focuses on Dante's Divine Comedy, reflecting emotional journeys through its sites, and in the case of Almaty, it examines everyday practices depicted in the texts of the researcher Melnikov. The findings highlight how diverse experiences can be integrated into heritage conservation work as well as cultural tourism management tools.
