A CASE STUDY OF CLINICAL PHARMACIST-PHYSICIAN COLLABORATION IN THE TREATMENT OF DEPRESSION
Abstract
According to the clinical data of the United Nations Health Organization, depression is among the five most common diseases that cause disability. According to WHO data, approximately 280 million people suffer from depression. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, 21 million adults in the United States will experience some form of depression, which is 8.3% of the adult population of the United States as of 2021. [1,2,4,5]
The above-mentioned work deals with the issue of the participation of clinical pharmacists in the treatment of depression. Since depression is a mental disorder that sometimes takes a long time to treat. [4,5] We believe that the involvement of clinical pharmacists in the pharmacotherapeutic process will help both the patient and the doctor in implementing effective treatment.
Relevance Unfortunately, a significant part of the population in Georgia also suffers from depression. [3] Therefore, it is important not to miss the initial symptoms characteristic of this condition. Often, patients do not pay attention to the manifestation of initial symptoms and consult a doctor after the condition worsens, which complicates treatment. Collaboration between a clinical pharmacist and a doctor will make the pharmacotherapeutic treatment process more effective and improve the patient's condition.
As a result of communication with the doctor during the research process, the clinical pharmacist became familiar with the pharmacotherapeutic process, in particular, he studied the patient's history, anamnesis and prescription. Participated together with the doctor in the treatment process of a specific patient. In the process of drug selection, the doctor was consulted about generic drugs of important drugs available on the Georgian market.
