Abstract

Digital technologies have revolutionized the traditional business model and created a plethora of new opportunities for entrepreneurship on a mass scale. The aim of this paper is to present a comprehensive theoretical framework for understanding the digital entrepreneurial ecosystem. Over the past few years, digital entrepreneurship has become a subject of significant academic and practical interest. This represents a new approach to entrepreneurship in the digital age, involving various actors such as digital platform providers, consumers, infrastructure providers, legal and informal institutions, financial infrastructure providers, and talent pool. The external environment for entrepreneurship has been improved through the implementation of trust-based networking mechanisms, collaborative sharing platforms, and multilateral cooperation frameworks. These measures have fostered stronger interactions among various stakeholders and expanded the geographical reach of the entrepreneurial ecosystem. Furthermore, they have widened the range and depth of entrepreneurship activities, contributing to the long-term viability of the digital entrepreneurship ecosystem on a global scale. In this study, we use a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods to systematically review existing literature on the digital entrepreneurial ecosystem. Findings from a comprehensive quantitative analysis provide a theoretical basis for the ecosystem and elucidate and analyse current research trends. The paper proposes an integrated, iterative research model for the digital entrepreneurship environment, encompassing various components that can be leveraged to foster a thriving digital ecosystem. The study outlines a roadmap for further research in this area. The argument is made that the implementation of these components can allow high-technology businesses to align with societal progress. This approach holds the key to creating a more efficient and robust digital entrepreneurial environment
