Abstract

China’s rapid urbanization has resulted in the emergence of some of the world’s most complex and dense metropolitan environments. To accommodate this unprecedented growth, cities have turned increasingly to super high-rise buildings as a vertical solution to urban sprawl. As these structures become taller and more intricate, the integration of smart technologies—ranging from Internet of Things (IoT) sensors to AI-driven facility management systems—has become essential for sustainability, safety, and livability. Smart high-rise buildings thus represent a convergence of architectural ambition, technological innovation, and policy direction, particularly within the framework of China’s national urbanization strategy. This article explores the evolving role of smart high-rise buildings in facilitating sustainable urban growth and enhancing urban governance in China.
