Modern teaching of monologue speech in a foreign language

Abstract

Engaging in active listening and understanding another individual provides a multitude of insights. Engaging in a verbal interaction is a fundamental necessity for an individual. Consequently, listening comprehension is essential for acquiring a foreign language. It is typical to possess a limited understanding of the speaker's discourse while listening. The rationale for this is the insufficient focus on teaching listening comprehension during foreign language acquisition. Listening comprehension involves the processes of listening, perceiving, and understanding during verbal communication. "Speaking" encompasses verbal communication, auditory reception, and comprehension. Challenges in listening comprehension within an educational environment, encompassing difficulties associated with each type of speech act:

  1. Linguistic problems encompass the difficulty of comprehending and understanding words that possess varied meanings yet share identical phonetic structures (homophones).
  2. Content-related issues encompass comprehending arguments, including the what, where, with whom, and when, alongside grasping the overarching concept of the material presented.
  3. Challenges in voice perception encompass speech rate and the complexity of mechanically recorded audio text.
  4. Simultaneously, it is challenging to comprehend and engage with a stranger after getting merely a single voice SMS.
  5. The complexities of speech impede the student's ability to engage in discourse and comprehend lengthy phrases during monologues. Linguistic obstacles encompass lexical, grammatical, and phonetic difficulties.
  6. Challenges in the structuring of the audio text. The structure of the audio text was found to generate problems. It directly incentivizes the student to engage with the presented subject.
