Water resources represent one of the most important components of the natural environment, directly connected to human health, ecosystem functioning, and sustainable development. Despite the fact that a large part of the Earth's surface is covered by water, the amount of freshwater suitable for drinking is limited. Population growth, industrialization, urbanization, and intensification of agriculture place significant pressure on water resources and increase the risk of pollution.
This study examines the main sources of water pollution, their impact on the environment and human health, and existing measures for water protection. Special attention is given to modern drinking water treatment technologies, such as membrane filtration, nanotechnologies, ultraviolet (UV) disinfection, biological filtration, and smart water management systems. The use of these technologies significantly increases water purification efficiency and ensures access to safe drinking water.
The results indicate that effective protection of water resources is possible only through the joint cooperation of the state, scientific community, and society, the implementation of modern technologies, and the strengthening of environmental policies.
