ILHAM ALIYEV'S ENERGY DIPLOMACY AND THE EXPANSION OF AZERBAIJAN'S ECONOMIC RELATIONS WITH EUROPE (2003–2017)

The article provides a comprehensive analysis of the energy diplomacy pursued by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, from 2003 to 2017, as well as its impact on the country’s international relations. The study examines the stages of Azerbaijan’s energy strategy, the implementation of major international projects, and, in particular, the geopolitical and economic significance of the Southern Gas Corridor. The role of this project in ensuring Europe’s energy security and strengthening Azerbaijan’s strategic position in the region is highlighted. The article also considers Azerbaijan’s cooperation with European countries in the energy sector and the economic benefits of this collaboration. The research shows that the energy diplomacy carried out has strengthened Azerbaijan’s position in the international energy market and contributed to the expansion of economic ties with Europe. At the same time, this policy has facilitated improvements in the country’s investment climate, the development of trade relations, and the enhancement of regional cooperation. Thus, Ilham Aliyev’s energy diplomacy has provided Azerbaijan with strategic advantages not only in the energy sector but also in economic and political spheres. This policy can be regarded as an important factor supporting the country’s long-term development prospects.
