INTEGRATING CLINICO-EPIDEMIOLOGICAL INDICATORS, HEMATOLOGICAL PROFILES, AND MELD-Na SYSTEM FOR SEVERITY ASSESSMENT IN LIVER DISORDERS
Abstract
Liver diseases are frequently associated with hematological abnormalities due to impaired hepatic synthesis, portal hypertension, and hypersplenism. The MELD-Na score is widely used to assess disease severity, yet its correlation with hematological derangements is not fully established. This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between liver disease severity measured by MELD-Na, and key hematological abnormalities, including anemia, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, and coagulation disturbances. In a cohort of patients with chronic liver disease, MELD-Na scores, complete blood counts and coagulation parameters were analyzed. Higher MELD-Na scores demonstrated a consistent association with worsening hematological indices, particularly anemia and thrombocytopenia. The findings suggest that integrating hematological parameters with MELD-Na may enhance the evaluation of disease severity and support better clinical decision-making in chronic liver disease management.
