Why must Communicative Grammar be chosen

“Grammar must be taught or not” is one of the debatable matter among researches and methodologists. Some of them think that there is no need for teaching grammar, it is learned naturally. But others argue that, as one of the linguistic matter grammar must be taught. In this article consideration has been given to thoughts of native linguists as G. Huseynzade, G. Shiraliyeva and foreign metodologists as Widdowson, W. Littlewood, S. Thornbury. The article researches why must grammar be obtained, how students learn grammar, overt grammar teaching, appropriateness of grammar instruction, what do we understand by “Grammar” term, and error correction. For teaching Past Simple traditional method and communicative approach were used. How their ways of teaching, types of used exercises and gained results’ difference are shown here. The important role of grammar in our speech, for expressing our thoughts and ideas was shown in examples. The article describes two types for acquiring grammar – language as a skill – takes place at school or university and a natural learning process – happens in natural environment.
