The Association Agreement signed between Georgia and the European Union defines the main issues of cooperation between Georgia and the EU member states in the field of transport. Its purpose is to ensure the development of the national transport policy and relevant sectoral strategies in the country, promote the use of smart transport systems and modern technologies in the field of transport infrastructure policy development, and more.
The functioning of the country's economy is closely related to the development of road transport and roads, which constitute one of the crucial branches of its infrastructure. In a country of Georgia's size and complex natural relief, the priority of road transport in the structure of the transport system is indisputable, especially considering the high-tech transport service parameters.
Cargo transported by transport units other than road freight is ultimately conveyed by trucks to its destination, such as warehouses, rail terminals, airports, and ports.
The safe transportation of cargo is a crucial issue, particularly for dangerous cargo. Regulation of this matter and the relevant requirements are provided by the European Union Directive, which Georgia has committed to implementing within the framework of the Association Agreement.
