IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF ANCESTORS: THE MAGNIFICENT MARK OF THE TURKS IN WORLD HISTORY
Keywords:
History of the Turks, the place of the Turks in world history, historical mission of the Turks, Azerbaijani TurksAbstract
This article explores the significant role of the Turks in world history, highlighting their cultural, political, and civilizational contributions across millennia. With a statehood tradition dating back at least 25,000 years, the Turks have left a profound mark on nearly every major region and epoch of human history. The work investigates the origins and meanings of the term “Turk,” tracing early references in Chinese, Assyrian, and Orkhon sources. It also discusses theories suggesting even earlier Turkish civilizational roots in the lost continents of Mu and Atlantis. Emphasizing the Turks’ historical mission of justice, respect for diversity, and non-barbaric governance, the article contrasts their inclusive practices with the oppressive behaviors of other empires. Special focus is placed on Azerbaijani Turks, their cultural heritage, and their integral place within the broader Turkic world. Ultimately, the paper argues that Turkish identity is inseparable from world history and that understanding it requires a global perspective.
