Abstract

The paper emphasizes that one of the central problems facing modern Georgia is the liberalization of the national economy and active involvement in globalization processes. The purpose of the research is outlined. The essence, forms, strengths and weaknesses, and importance of an open economy are characterized on the way to achieving the set goal. It is revealed that the free trade regime is sometimes not equally beneficial for local enterprises, since some economic and trade partner countries pursue protectionist policies. It is noted that the degree of openness of the economy largely depends on the territorial and economic size (size) of the country. The position of Georgia according to the ease of doing business, economic freedom, and global competitiveness index is determined. It is shown how the openness of the Georgian economy contributes to national competitiveness within the country and in the international arena, and proposals and recommendations are proposed to promote competitive advantages
