Abstract

In the contemporary landscape of language education, the teaching of pronunciation and phonetics has gained renewed importance, particularly due to the growing emphasis on communicative competence in English as a foreign language. Phonetic competence is a foundational component of language proficiency, enabling learners to produce and perceive sounds accurately, which in turn facilitates clear and effective communication. However, teaching phonetics—especially in non-native environments—poses significant challenges for both learners and instructors. Traditional methods, often reliant on rote repetition and passive listening, may fail to sufficiently engage students or address individual pronunciation issues in a personalized manner.

With the advancement of digital tools and the increasing integration of multimedia technologies into the educational process, a range of new opportunities has emerged for optimizing the teaching of practical phonetics. Multimedia technologies allow for a multimodal approach to learning: students can both see and hear the articulation of sounds, receive immediate feedback on their pronunciation, and engage in interactive activities that enhance their motivation and retention. Visual models of speech production, auditory discrimination exercises, and phonetic transcription tools can be combined to provide a rich and supportive learning environment.
