Augmented Reality (AR) technology offers innovative opportunities to transform traditional board games into immersive, interactive learning experiences. Despite its promising educational benefits, integrating AR into board games presents significant challenges, including technical limitations, user experience issues, and economic constraints. Technical problems such as hardware compatibility, battery efficiency, and reliable tracking systems frequently complicate AR implementation. Additionally, complexity in user interactions and interface design can overwhelm users, diminishing the effectiveness of AR-enhanced learning. Economic factors, such as high development costs and accessibility, further restrict widespread adoption. This paper identifies these primary challenges and explores practical solutions, including the application of optimized AR frameworks, user-centered design methodologies, and cost-effective development practices. Finally, recommendations for overcoming these barriers and future research directions are discussed, highlighting the considerable potential of AR in educational board games.
