Digital Technology and Senior Citizens: A Sociological Perspective on Technological Engagement in Old Age
Keywords:
Digital inclusion, aging, digital technology, older adults, sociotechnical systems, technology adoptionAbstract
Despite the growing social pressure to use new digital technologies, their adoption by older people remains below other age groups. This article makes a sociological contribution to the study of what promotes learning and the use of digital technologies in later life. We focus on an under-studied group of older people who are weak and are likely to be excluded or restricted in the use of digital technologies. Based on "Quantitative Research" and "Case-control", they proposed a number of conclusions and recommendations to overcome the "digital divide". With this work, we contribute to a new sociological understanding of technology adoption, which is crucial for the study of digital inequality.
