CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CLT

Abstract

            The article elaborates the advantages and disadvantages, as well as principles and functions of the Communicative language teaching method. The article underlines that the CLT covers all four language skills including reading, writing, speaking and listening. However, speaking and writing skills are not taught in academic layer. They are taught in colloquial layer. In general, the concept of layer is not taken into account while teaching the second language through this method. The main focus is on the communication which should be provided in language learning process. Mistakes are not taken into consideration while learning the language through this method. This is the biggest disadvantage of the CLT.
